The Winemakers’ House - Muscadet

THE WINEMAKERS’
HOUSE

The Château de la Frémoire is located in Vertou, a town that links the vineyards and the city. This former feudal manor dating from the 17th century was extensively remodelled in the 19th century.

A remarkable three-storey building

It is a remarkable three-storey building (with an 850 sq. metre floor surface), set in four hectares of landscaped parkland and outbuildings. This edifice overlooks the Sèvre Nantaise with a panoramic view of the Vertou racecourse and the Nantes vineyards.

In 1989, it became the property of the Nantes wine sector through the Fédération des Vins de Nantes and in particular of the producers of the 3 appellations d’origine contrôlée (AOC): Muscadet, Gros Plant du Pays Nantais and Coteaux d’Ancenis The Fédération des Vins de Nantes is a professional association representing 400 winegrowers in the departments of Loire-Atlantique, Vendée and Maine-et-Loire.

It safeguards, manages and promotes wine appellations and is made up of 2 divisions: the Safeguard and Management Division and the Communication Division. It contributes to the general mission of preserving and promoting terroirs, local traditions and know-how, as well as the resulting products.

2024 Château opening

The Château de la Frémoire site is home to other wine sector organisations, such as the Syndicat des Vignerons Indépendants Nantais, the Institut Français de la Vigne et du Vin with its experimental cellar and Inovalys, a quality control body devoted to the region’s AOCs.

Something of a hub for winegrowers and other qualified tasters, competitions are organised here in the largest tasting room in the Loire Valley, including the Concours Général Agricole, the Prix Clémence Lefeuvre and the Pipette d’Or, amongst others. We also carry out tastings for guidebook selections such as the Guide Hachette, the Revue du Vin de France, etc.
In 2024, the Fédération des Vins de Nantes opened the interior of the château after a year’s work to create its embassy: Château de la Frémoire – A Muscadet Journey.
